Yesterday amidst working on the season finale of Life of Dmitri Ruwan series, I happened to set my americano down and browse through Instagram for a mid-work break. Skimming through the local thirst-traps and influencers scrambling to create content that appeals to the masses of ‘the quarantined’ I happily stumbled onto the account of a rather intriguing artist aptly called @AVeryRealFantasy
On their official account, the byline reads as “Vintage inspired collage art for your daily internet dosage.” However, the art is definitely not internet fodder. As millennial adults who’ve become accustomed to absorbing content at a rapidly frightening rate those of us who develop an eye for authenticity are rarely misguided in our sensibilities and while art is certainly subjective the work of this digital artist based in Ottawa, Canada spoke to my psyche in a way that many aspiring artists and creators simply can’t. In his series of vintage-inspired artworks, Justin highlights a myriad of topics accentuated, manipulated, magnified and redeveloped to speak to the contemporary zeitgeist. These topics range from thoughts on love and relationships to toxic behavioural patterns, self-realization, astrology and otherworldly visions that merge fact and fiction in a wickedly captivating symbiosis.

These prints can instantly add to the character of a room, often containing a statement of sorts that speak to the onlooker with colours that are reminiscent of 1950s Americana and at the risk of sounding overtly-mod the popularized Netflix-reboot show Sabrina The Teenage Witch has which has definitely reignited interest in works that elude to this form of otherworldly prints. As far as a creator, Justin seems to have a finger on our collective pulses that will only get better with time.
