Right off the bat, Toplum Dubai isn't so much a hideaway as it is a world of its own. Located in the top most floor of Mirdif City Centre, away from the throngs of crowds that frequent the more traditional food brands, Toplum is elevating in-mall concepts.
Bear in mind that most prominent malls located in Dubai host a number of internationally renowned restaurants (or at the very least labels that are household names) Given that the restaurant business is competitive enough already, one would think that a fairly new concept would struggle to rise to the occasion given the current climate. But, then came Toplum. Located right across from Fitness First, Toplum has the same visual appeal that Alice in Wonderland did on our childhood imaginations, albeit in a more restrained yet similarly fascinatingly manner. Its cascading rose-gold pillars are made to mimic the fall of billowing curtains while custom-made marble and ivory leather chairs with gold accents artfully contrast with the matted, domed walls. The design vision, a product of XO Atelier helmed by Creative Director & Founder Vera Edith Dieckmann, also displays perhaps the most unique light instalment in a mall-based concept.
The highly reflective piece combines coloured glass in a pattern that that mirror orbital alignment and in doing so casts a kaleidoscopic glaze of light across the restaurant. The food, developed by chef Jarek also boasts a similarly wonderful approach. Wholesome breakfast meals such as Mushroom toast with cashew cream cheese, sourdough chives and poached eggs or french toast with blueberry compote, are just a sliver of the delectable meals on offer. Chef Jarek's personal touch is evident in food that is lightweight in consistency but wholesome in nature, an art not easily achievable by most. This is specifically noticeable in the Sourdough Pizza of burrata cheese complete with fresh basil, tomato and pine nuts.
In closing, Toplum is often bustling with clients that enjoy its calming ambience and hearty meals. But, it also exudes a kind of murmuring peacefulness during select hours of the day that make it a thoroughly enjoyable location to read a book, enjoy a latte with friends or get some work done.
